Upcycled Jewelry: What It Is, and Why You Should Be Looking Into It!
Recycling isn't just for plastic and glass...
It's not secret that people donate their old jewelry...and it often gets thrown away. One of my goals for 2024 has been to turn more previously beloved jewelry into new pieces that will actually get worn - and it has been working!
Upcycling is my small way of helping divert craft supplies and wearable jewelry from the landfill!
Upcycled Choker Necklaces in the July Collection
Those necklaces pictured above? All upcycled! The clasps, wire, and evil eye/daisy glass beads are new supplies...but the pearls and colorful glass beads are all from vintage necklaces!
I source my vintage/antique beads from a variety of places, including items that people give to me! I love to check local antique shops - lots of vintage beads are just waiting to be found.
Breathing Fresh Life Into Old Pieces...
We've all done it - we saw the perfect {insert jewelry item here} and had to have it! But then a few years go by and we stopped wearing {insert color or gemstone here}. You still LOVE the basic components, but you just don't wear it anymore.
That's where I can help! I can take a beloved piece of jewelry and work it into something new - this necklace on the right was actually a pair of pearl earrings that belonged to my friend Neha of Neha Luhar Art. I took the earrings apart and created a necklace that she will treasure for years to come.
Do you have something you want to see upcycled?
While I am not able to solder a diamond into a new band, I can take your high school prom earrings and make them into a pair you will actually wear to work! Send me a message through the website or email me at jasperandelm@gmail.com to get started.
